The Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport (MIPST) is set to open the newly reconstructed Fond St. Jacques (Mocha) Bridge on Sunday 13th April 2014. This is the fourth bridge to be constructed in Soufriere by the Ministry from 2012.

The Mocha Bridge sustained major structural damage as a result of Hurricane Tomas, and in May 2013, further deterioration surfaced before the Ministry was forced to close this bridge to vehicular traffic.

The new structure is a two lane 9.6 metre wide bridge, and has a total span of 14.6 metres, a vast improvement from the previous single lane bridge. One (1) pedestrian sidewalk was included, while safety railings were placed on either side of the bridge. River protection works using a strong stone system were used to prevent erosion and ensure proper flow and alignment is maintained. Concrete road drains were also built to channel run-off water and to protect the new structure.

Construction commenced in September 2013, and just as the recently opened Deville Bridge, this structure was built by Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE). The contractor was engaged through the Finance and Build Model.

An official opening ceremony has been planned for Sunday 13th April 2014, starting at 4:00 pm.
