With more than 65 musical performances, art showcases, and a couture fashion show, the 23rd annual Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival will have travellers moving and shaking across the island.

The 12-day celebration kicks off on this evening at the People’s Auditorium at the Mindoo Philip Park, and runs through May 11th featuring a series of “festivals-within-the-festival,” infused with local culture, talent and cuisine.

RCI news spoke with Superman HD who is among the cast of local heavy weights for tonight’s opening. He says the artistes are all pumped up for the event.

Speaking on past concerns about more inclusion of local artistes on the cast for the jazz festival amid what jazz organizers describe as the dismal level of local support for them, Superman HD says an appreciation for home grown talent is growing.

This evening’s extravaganza will also feature other local and regional entertainment giants, including, Ricky T, Mongster, Evalucian featuring Arthur Allain, Superman HD and DYP, Kerwin Du Bois, Skinny Fabulos, Carimi, Mr Killer, and Popcaan and the Ruff Kuff Band.

The show starts promptly at 8pm
