A St. Lucian pioneer in the fashion industry has described the staging of the 2nd Annual Hot Couture fashion event as “messy” and lacking direction.

Mr Vincent McDoom, who was a front runner at the first staging of the fashion forward event, is among those who have joined the chorus of reviews circulating about this year’s run way event.

He notes that while several improvements were made to the set, compared to last year’s event, the show lacked the product quality needed to market itself, and the island.

Mr McDoom has also criticized the organizers of the event for what he says is their lack of vision and boxing off their reach with a caribbeanist mentality, rather than adopting a global approach. He says while there is a wealth of talent in the local modelling industry here, there is little scope for international exposure.

He has pointed to several upcoming projects where a small number of St Lucians who are working in the industry will be featured.

Hot Couture was staged at the Johnsons Centre last night.
