The hardships brought on by the economic crunch appear to have dealt a severe blow to a charitable organization here.

According to Major Jonothan Kellman who heads the St Lucia Red Cross Society, the organization, see a huge decline in donations around this time of year. He notes that it is not surprising because many donors are affected by the financial toll, and while the donations are most plentiful during Christmas time, the needs of the poor are so great that the contributions only go so far.

Meanwhile Major Kellman notes that The Salvation Army is in the throes of hosting a benefit concert, where it is hoped that they will raise much needed funds.

The concert is expected to be held some time this month.
