A suite of activities will take shape over the next four days in commemoration of World Biodiversity Day, which is observed annually on May 22.

This year's World Biodiversity Day theme is "Island Biodiversity" which seeks to increase awareness and appreciation of the unique marine and near shore ecosystems that characterize Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The commoerative activites start today, from 2pm with a presentation on the active ingredients and uses of traditional plants in St. Lucia, by famed Biochemist Mr. Emmanuel Nossin of TRAMIL.

A series of panel discussions on biodiversity based products are on scheduled to be aired on the National Television Network (NTN).

Castries will also be buzzing with educational activity with the staging of a special exhibition at the Blue Coral Mall, featuring current biodiversity conservation efforts, and past successes by the Forestry Department, Saint Lucia National Trust with support from the Fisheries Department and Durrel Wildlife.
The Biodiversity Unit of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology encourages all Saint Lucia to support the various activities and remember that " biodiversity is vital for better living".
