The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards is immensely proud of news of the prestigious “Superior Taste Award” given to Baron Foods Limited for its well known product West Indian Hot Sauce by International Taste and Quality Institute (iTQi) in Belgium.

The SLBS says the award is significant because while it rewards taste, the structure is affixed to recognize quality criteria.  The International Taste & Quality Institute - iTQi - based in Brussels, promotes itself as the world leading organization dedicated to testing and promoting superior food and drink.

As part of its schedule iTQi supports its awards with physical-chemical tests conducted by “accredited laboratories in order to check that the products are technically sound and will be of the same high quality when they reach the consumer.”

The SLBS is pleased that Barons Foods Ltd has sought out this award, as the company implemented a robust quality infrastructure very early in its operations.  

Barons began its standardization programme in 2004 and this remains a corner stone of its strategy for quality production and effective marketing–graduating from the Hazard Critical Control Points (HACCP) standard, to the Food Safety Certification System FSSC: 2200 which is now in place.
