The St Lucia Calypso Association can now realize a zero balance spreadsheet as the CDF wipes out its debt of over 10 thousand dollars.

The news comes from the Board of Directors of the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), which has acted on a recommendation from the Carnival Planning & Management Agency (CPMA), at its meeting of Monday 26th May.

The CDF has agreed to support the St. Lucia Calypso Association (2009) for the 2014 Calypso Season in the form of a conditional write-off of the amount of $12,525.00 owed to the CDF by the Association and member tents for the 2011 to 2013 Calypso Seasons.

Chairman of the CPMA, Lyndon Arnold stated that the request was made in consideration of the fiscal challenges facing Carnival Stakeholders and Partners this year, especially in light of the absence of a subvention from government. Mr Arnold believes that the move can be considered as a step in the direction toward making the festival more self sustaining in the future.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Board of the CDF, Petrus Compton, welcomed the Board’s decision and expressed the hope that with this liability no longer hanging over the heads of tent leaders, they will proceed to produce the quality shows that are necessary to attract large audiences and, in so doing, balance their books and meet all their obligations for the 2014 season.
