The findings, so far, of an Economic Impact Assessment on the contribution of Carnival to the local economy has been described as promising.

That’s according to the Consultant in the Creative Industries Ministry Christopher Hunte who brought the survey which was conducted during the second half of 2013 into focus.

Mr Hunte notes that while the survey is not completed, the initiative served to get a view on the supply aspect of carnival and its stakeholders. He believes that when completed, the report will help to strengthen the economic argument for the festival. The responsibility of driving the island’s tourism rests on the cultural practitioners and the creative Industries.

Mr Hunte says the continuous assessment of carnival is what was used to justify the one million dollar subvention from government so far.
