Countries in the Region are being called upon to address the $1.2 million in outstanding contributions owed to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

Barbados' Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Braithwaite made the call, stressing that CDEMA could do a lot more for countries in the region if it was given the necessary resources during the opening ceremony of the Fifth Meeting of the Council of CDEMA at Hilton Barbados recently.

He highlighted the fact that CDEMA did 'tremendous' work over the years to ensure that the region was better able to withstand and respond to natural  and man-made disasters.

Evidence of this, he noted, could be seen in the different levels of response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, and last year's flood events that affected Dominica, St. Lucia and St. Vincent.
