Renovation works on the Dennery Hospital are now complete and the facility is expected to formally reopen its doors later today.

The Hospital was built in 1954, and is a Community - Based Health Care Facility serving the communities from Barre De Lisle in the north to Praslin in the south with a total of approximately ten thousand people.

The Hospital was badly damaged by Hurricane Tomas which struck the island on October 31, 2010. As per the disaster plan, services were relocated to Richfond Wellness Centre.

The new structure creates a better layout and flow for services. In addition to the already exiting services, new features include Men’s Health clinics, Adolescent Health Services, a Wellness and a Wound Management Clinic.

An independent Urgent Care Department, now fitted with modern equipment, will allow for management of emergencies without disruption in the provision of services, with extended hours from 12 to 18 hours (7am to Midnight).

The facility is also fitted with a teen center which provides a creative space for the youth to express themselves through art, craft, dance, drama and receive accurate information on their health and possible solutions to the many problems they face.

In addition, the facility is the first to truly embrace integrated services with a central point of registration for all clients accessing care.

Despite the many challenges, the facility is now equipped to handle the many casualties within the region, thereby decreasing the congestion at Victoria and St. Jude Hospital.

A ceremony to officially declare the facility open takes place at 1pm
