The curtains have come down on the island’s largest cultural showpiece, following the face-off among contenders in the various competitions, which took place over the weekend leading up to Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

Among the major events taking place here were the Groovy and Power Soca Monarch finals which took place at the Beausejour Grounds on Saturday.

The event saw the fall of the 2013 Monarch and the rise of two newcomers to the helm. Arthur has been named the 2014 Groovy Soca Monarch after performing the popular song numb, while brothers Ambi and Ricky T came in at second and third places respectively.

Ezra Augustin is the 2014 Power Soca Monarch after a performance of his song Bacchanal Rampage. He was followed by Ambi who performed his song free, followed by J Mouse with the song Hurt it, while Derek Yard came in at 4th place with the song Kabawe.

Meanwhile, in the calypso arena, the 2013 monarch was dethroned and Walleigh has captured the title. But last year’s title holder Minelle was not too far behind, coming in at second place followed by Nintus in third place.
