Thirteen teams have confirmed participation in the 15th Biennial Championships of the Caribbean Union of Teachers to be held in Trinidad and Tobago

They include defending champions and six-time winners Barbados, three-time winners, Jamaica and four-time winners, hosts Trinidad and Tobago. The other confirmed teams are, St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Bermuda, Grenada, Dominica, Anguilla, Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana and St. Kitts, while the Cayman Islands are expected to be a last minute registration.

A very large contingent of supporters is expected from Barbados with a smaller following from the other participating countries.

According to the General Secretary of the CUT Virginia Albert Poyotte, it must be noted that the Students’ Track and Field Championships came about as a result of the organization’s recognition of the need to provide young athletes aged 8 to15 with regional competition.

The CUT also recognizes that sports have a significant role to play in the regional integration process. The Championships was first organized in Barbados in 1986 with Barbados being the first winner.
