Strong words are being used to describe what is being seen as the failure of the island’s health Minister to deal with the dire situation that exists at the St Jude Hospital.

Suggestions are that the make shift facility at the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux Fort faces new threats in addition to the challenges that continue to plague the hospital.

Reports are that a gas leak was detected at the facility on Friday last week, raising fresh concerns about the safety of staff and patients at the hospital.

Meanwhile, residents in the south of the island continue to lament the state of the hospital and the inability of medical staff to administer proper care to patients.

The situation has also been condemned by the Leader of the Opposition Dr Gail Rigobert who last week released a statement calling on Health Minister Alvina Reynolds and Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony to address the situation there.

Claims are that patients at the facility are not able to access pharmaceuticals from the hospital because vendors will no longer honour any orders for medicine from St Jude Hospital.

According to one Vieux Fort resident, the situation cannot be allowed to continue.
