Officials at the Water and Sewerage Company say while recent rains over the past two weeks has caused a spill over at the John Compton Dam, the situation remains sensitive.

According to Strategic Planning Manager John Sealy, the intake is currently greater than the output because WASCO continues its water rationing plan used during the drought.

He notes that the water company continues to employ caution in an effort to avert any negative effects on St Lucian consumers should drought conditions present any further threat.

Mr Sealy notes that while there have been no siltation issues affecting the quality of water being distributed by the water company, it continues to affect the capacity of the facility.

A water emergency was issued for the north of the island in March this year but was further extended to cover the entire country as a result of severe drought conditions experienced here.
