The latest attempt to smuggle illegal substances into one of the island’s lock up facilities has drawn reaction from the National Youth Council. Three teenage girls have been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs and matches into the police custody suites at the Police Headquarters compound.

The incident occurred on Sunday, when the girls aged 16, 17 and 18, were visiting an inmate at the detention facility at about 4 p.m. A quantity of marijuana and matches were recovered during a routine search of the individuals.

NYC president Timothy Ferdinand describes as saddening, the failure of young people to see the downside of being involved in illegal activity. Mr Ferdinand points to what he believes is a solution that would keen young people focused and meaningfully engaged.

The latest smuggling attempt was intercepted by officers attached to the Bordelais Correctional facility last week.
