St. Lucians are being advised to brace for intense rain today as a result of a tropical wave which is currently affecting the region.

The island has been experiencing frequent rain events over the past few weeks, which, according to the acting Director of Met Services, is not surprising.

Mr Venantius Descartes noted that, historically, the month of August has been rainy and comes at the peak of the hurricane season.

He however adds that development of the weather system currently affecting the island is very unlikely.

Mr Descartes has urged the public to be cautious as the possibility exists for fklash flooding and landslides in certain areas.

Meanwhile, he notes that while drought conditions continue to improve here, the island is not yet in the clear.

The acting director of met services says based on the amount of rainfall for the month of August, drought conditions for the south of the island have been discontinued
