The St Lucia Fire Service Welfare Association is meeting with the executive of the St Lucia Civil Service Association today to hold talks on representation for its membership

The move comes following a posture taken by the management of the St Lucia Fire Service not to recognize the constitutionality of the Association, since elections are past due for a new executive.

The situation, coupled with disciplinary action being taken against the Welfare Association Chairman Shane Felix by the Public Service Commission has caused fire officers to intensify their action.

Speaking on the matter today Mr Felix noted that firemen will not back down from their position and has thanked the public as well as other unions who have expressed support for their cause.

Meanwhile support for the fire service men and women continues to grow as the St Lucia Teachers Union joins that collective voice.

In a statement issued earlier today the SLTU expressed concern regarding the situation currently facing colleague members.

It adds that the SLTU and the TUF supports the fire officers legitimate claim and is of the view that the situation plaguing the fire service has been left to fester for far too long
