The Traffic Department of the Royal St Lucia Police Force is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident which occurred on the Bexon Highway about 7: 20 p.m. on Sunday, September 7th.

The accident involved a wrecker trailer driven by Omega Ettiene of La Grace, Laborie and a peddle cyclist named Stephen Joseph of Bexon. As a result of the impact, Joseph sustained serious injuries and were transported to Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for a later date. The Traffic Department has recorded 14 fatal accidents where 16 people have been killed

In more news, one man of Vieux Fort has been shot by police after allegedly engaging in indecent assault on a woman

Police report that about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 6th an off duty officer witnessed a woman was standing in the vicinity of a business place at Beanfield, Vieux Fort, being indecently assaulted by a young man

The officer approached the man, identified himself to the individual and informed him that he had committed an offence by indecently assaulting the female. The suspect started insulting the police officer, who then informed him that he was under arrest.

The suspect then reached into his pocket, pulled out a pair of scissors and launched at the police officer with it. The police officer attempted to disarm the suspect, who repeatedly launched him with the intent to stabbing the officer

The officer discharged one round of ammunition at the suspect, hitting him in the leg. The suspect was subsequently taken to St. Jude’s hospital where he was treated and admitted.

The matter is currently being investigated.
