A three man team from the Ministry of Health has recently returned from Cuba having participated in a conference that discussed a regional approach in the management of Ebola.

This conference brought together representatives from thirty three (33) countries from the Caribbean and Latin America including directors and specialists in various health services, Chief Medical Officers, Heads of Port Health Programmes, Directors of Health Promotion and Education and Disaster Coordinators from various countries.

 Notable attendees were representatives from the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the Canadian Public Health Agency along with supporting specialists from the Cuban Health Agencies.

St. Lucia's delegation was headed by Dr. Sharon Belmar-George, Senior Medical Officer who explained the purpose for the meeting where countries discussed their national plan and their approach to Ebola.

Dr. Belmar-George also stated that among the recommendations coming out of this conference were the commissioning of intense specialized training for medical staff and other support organizations, particularly in the use of  Personal Protective Equipment(PPE).
