A weather event over the weekend which dumped more than 7 inches of rain in on the island, reminiscent of the Christmas eve Trough, appears to have caught many St. Lucians by surprise.

Acting Director of Met Services Venantius Descartes explained that the rains came as a result of an upper level trough which interacted with a lower level system causing continuous rain for almost 24 hours.

The Castries area recorded 127 mm of rainfall while Vieux Fort recorded 92.9 mm.

Mindful that the hurricane season is still on Mr Descaters has strongly advised citizens to remain vigilant and to guard against not only hurricanes but other natural disaster as well.
