Just one day after the hosting of activities to celebrate the achievements of men and the role that they play in the family and Society, on the occasion of International Men’s Day, reports have surfaced here that a young man of Marchand has taken his own life.

An official report from the Royal St Lucia Police Force indicates that the body of 20 year old   Barnard Mortley of Maynard Hill, Castries was found suspended from his bedroom ceiling by a family member on Wednesday.

Barnard was transported to the Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Speaking on the possible reasons why men take such drastic actions, Mr keith Smith from the Back on track Ministries singles out depression as a major contributor to incidence of suicide among men.

Mr Smith says it is critical for individuals suffering from Depression to become conscious of their issues and find a way to reach out to a trusted source for assistance.
Incidence of suicide among young people appears to be on the rise here. Just last month a 15 year old secondary student Ebony Darius was found hanging in a closet by a family member at her Piat Grand Riviere home.
