The Chief Education Officer has confirmed receipt of a resignation letter from a teacher at the Castries Comprehensive School over inappropriate conversations with a female student.

Mr Marcus Edward says the teacher who was at the time on contract admitted to have acted inappropriately and has apologized for such behavior.

In responding to concerns about the situation Mr Edward noted that the Ministry of Education takes a strong position against such incidents, particularly in cases where sexual contact between students and teachers exist.

Speaking on the extent of the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Education and the school to determine the extent of the situation, Mr Edward noted that once the teacher had withdrawn his service there is little scope for a probe by the Teaching Service Commission.

The teacher in question was hired on a temporary basis and his contract would have ended in July next year.
