The St Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority has confirmed at approximately 9:10 am a fire had started at the Engine Room on Board Cruise Vessel Insigna while berthed at Berth number 5, Port Castries.

A statement from the marketing department at SLAPA notes that there is an evolving situation and the agency currently gathering as much information as possible.

The statement notes that while the company is working to answer questions from the public as quickly as possible, SLASPA notes that it has procedures in place to deal with such emergency. The agency has assured that the situation is under control, and its agents are working with local and cruise ship authorities.

A press conference has been scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at SLASPA’s Conference Room  where officials will provide an update on the situation.

The statement stressed that SLASPA’s top priority is the safety and security of its employees, stakeholders, visitors and cargo.
