Opposition Senator Lenard Montoute today confirmed his resignation from the senate and has dismissed as speculation and propaganda, claims suggesting that the move comes in order to make way for Party leader Allen Chastanet to replace him.

Mr Montoute has however explained that the decision was made in consultation with the party, and is party of moves to restructure the United Workers Party in preparation for the next general elections whenever they are called.

He notes that the roster will include several new candidates, and that his resignation presents an opportunity for them to serve the party and country.

Mr Montoute has also strongly denied claims that his decision to resign from the senate and the defeat of Dr Claudius Preville in last week Tuesday’s vote for a UWP candidate in Babonneau are not linked. He says a decision has not been made on who will replace him in the Upper House.
