The Folk Research Centre in among individuals and local organizations paying tribute to a Cultural icon who passed away this month .

Clifton Doudou who was born in 1921 at Balembouche Estate in the quarter of Choiseul died on January 11th.

During his lifetime Doudou was a singer of cultural songs of St. Lucia. He  maintained the tradition of African dances until he was unable to because of ill health.  He travelled throughout the country performing with the Piaye Cultural Group.  He also performed in Canada along with a group of St. Lucians in 1982.     

A founding member of the Piaye’s cultural Group, and was keen onn ensuring that the group continued to maintain the African dances

The Folk Research Centre honoured Clifton Doudou Joseph three (3) years ago for his sterling contribution to the culture of St. Lucia

The funeral service for Cultural Icon Clifton ”Doudou”  Joseph will be held on Wednesday January 21st. at the Church of the Purification in Laborie. Hundreds of cultural activists folk groups and well-wishers are expected to join the family and friends in the celebration of Doudou’s life.
