St. Lucia Mourns Loss of Teens in Fatal Accident

The Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations has extended condolences to the families and loved ones of eighteen-year-old Zhané Bianca Williams and nineteen-year-old Zina Omega Anthony, who lost their lives tragically on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

The teenagers both attended the Division of Arts, Science and General Studies of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC).

Fuel Prices to be Increased on Island

The Public is being advised that in keeping with changes in international oil prices and Government’s application of the modified market pass-through petroleum pricing mechanism, the retail prices of unleaded gasoline, diesel, LPG 20, 22, and 100 lb cylinders have been changed.

The price change takes effect from Monday, May 01, 2017.

Police Investigate Choc Highway Accident

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident which occurred on Saturday, April 29, 2017, about 9:00 p.m. along the Choc Highway, near Saaman’s Park.

The incident involved a motorcar registration number PA 515, which was travelling southbound, towards Castries, and, motor lorry registration number TK 915 traversing northbound, towards Gros Islet.

A post mortem conducted on the body of one of the twins who succumbed to injuries sustained in a fire at La Croix Maingot, has been released.

The autopsy conducted on the body by Dr. Wayne Felicien revealed that Kerri Louis died as a result of hypovolemic shock, (severe blood or fluid loss) secondary to extensive burns to the body.

A protest march organized by the Vieux-Fort Concerned Citizens Coalition for Change in conjunction with I WILL STAND and the Concerned Citizens of St. Lucia is set to take place this weekend in the south of the island.

On Saturday, April 22, 2017 about 9:45 p.m. a police operation about ten nautical miles (10NM) south west of Gros Piton (Soufriere) resulted in the arrest of two (2) Saint Lucian nationals on a local fishing canoe, named “Stranger”.

During the operation which comprised of maritime and land assets, forty-seven (47) packages of cocaine weighing 3.22 kilograms and forty-four (44) packages of compressed cannabis weighing 27.28 kilograms were discovered and seized after it was jettisoned from the vessel.

The incident involved a truck registration number PG 4440, which apparently encountered mechanical difficulties while travelling downhill. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries as a result of the accident.

Temporary Ban Imposed on Corned Beef from Brazil Now Lifted

A temporary ban on corned beef from Brazil imposed by the government of St Lucia has been lifted.

The move was taken following international concerns about the unwholesomeness of meat and meat products from Brazil. Officials there had confirmed that a criminal investigation named “Operation Weak Flesh” was initiated by the Brazilian Government. As a result, the Ministry of Health & Wellness, in Collaboration with the Veterinary and Livestock Division of the ministry of Agriculture and the Consumer Affairs Division of the Ministry of Commerce, instituted a temporary suspension on the importation of corned beef from Brazil. Since the introduction of this measure, local government agencies have continued to closely monitor the situation.
