Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged in St. Lucia

The Public is being notified of the price adjustments in fuel in keeping with changes in international oil prices and Government’s application of the modified market pass-through petroleum pricing mechanism.

The retail prices of diesel, LPG 20, 22 and 100 lb cylinders have been changed but the retail prices for gasoline and kerosene remain unchanged. The new price changes take effect from Monday, November 6, 2017:

UWI Records 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake

The seismic research Unit of the University of the West Indies has confirmed the occurrence of a 5.7 magnitude earthquake on Sunday morning.

According to the Director at the National Emergency Management Organization Velda Joseph, the quake was reported as felt in several Caribbean islands, including Trinidad, St Lucia and Grenada. However she notes that there have been no reports of major damage.

Fire Guts Hospital Road Home

One family of eight is now homeless after a fire gutted through their Hospital Road home in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Home owner, and father of six, Vaughn Cadet says the fire apparently started in the neighbours house around 1am.

Texas Church Massacre Claims the Lives of More than Two Dozen Worshippers

A church massacre on Sunday in Texas that claimed the lives of more than two dozen worshippers has caused certain sections of the society to reflect on an eighteen year old tragedy here.

The 2001 one attack resulted in the death of two people and left dozens more wounded when two men wielding machetes stormed the Roman Catholic cathedral in St. Lucia's capital during Mass, hacking worshipers and setting some on fire with a blowtorch and fuel.

Law enforcement officials have opened an investigation into the death of a Marc Bexon resident.

Sources close to the investigation have revealed that Herbert Weekes, who is believed to be in his 50’s, was found unresponsive on a bed at his residence in Marc, Bexon on Wednesday afternoon.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Cyril James, consequent to a vehicular accident which occurred on Monday, October 30, 2017, about 4:30 p.m. at Victoria, Choiseul, near the Ravineau Gap.

Cyril James, a fifty two (52) year old resident of Morne Jacques, Choiseul, was one of four persons on a pick-up van, which overturned after encountering mechanical difficulties.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2017, officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Vieux Fort, received a report of a stabbing at West Hall Group, Vieux Fort, between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Keith Smith, a twenty nine (29) year old resident of Balca, Choiseul, originally of Bruceville, Vieux Fort, sustained a stab wound during the said incident. He was pronounced dead on the scene by a medical practitioner.

Police News

On Friday, September 22, 2017, during a police operation at Cacao, Babonneau, a .380 pistol, ten rounds of ammunition and two magazines were recovered. Two individuals were arrested as a consequence.

Twenty nine (29) year old Jervaughn St. Claire and thirty (30) year old Steve Joseph both residents of Cacao, Babonneau, were formally charged for the offences of Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.
