University of West Indies Awards Honorary Degrees to 5 Outstanding Persons

Former Government Minister and Former President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Dr. Julian Hunte, is among 5 persons who were conferred with Honorary Degrees by the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus at the University's Annual Graduation Ceremony held on Saturday.

The event was held at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Barbados.

Man Charged with Assault of Motor Vehicle

On Thursday, October 17, 2013, 24 year old Emron Jon of Belaire was charged for the offenses of Assault with a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Aiding and Abetting the offense of grievous harm.

He appeared before the First District Court in Castries on Friday, October 18, 2013.

John was arrested on Monday October 14, 2013 at the George FL Charles airport after he was returned to St. Lucia by local and regional authorities.

Vitalis appointed as St. Lucia's Non-Resident Ambassador to Petro Caribe and ALBA

Mr. Hippolyte Eustace Vitalis has been appointed to serve as St. Lucia's Non-Resident Ambassador to Petro Caribe and ALBA.

That's according to a release from the office of the Press Secretary to the Prime Minister.

It stated that Mr. Vitalis, who is an Agricultural Economist by training, is well versed in both Spanish and Portuguese, having studied in Cuba and Brazil.

Dengue Fever Alert for St. Lucia

Members of the public have been placed on high alert for the spread of dengue fever following a particular discovery by the Ministry of health.

According to Chief Medical officer Dr Merlene Fredericks, officials have discovered an increase in the number of reported cases here, which has triggered the alert. She pointed out that while there is an increase in reported cases it has not reached epidemic proportions. As a result members of the public are being urged to be cautious.

The Cultural Development Foundation and the Saint Lucian artistic community today mourns the loss of Blaise Claudio Pascal, a highly regarded international tenor who died on Wednesday.

Football Coaches Participate at Child Abuse Sensitization Workshop

Football coaches around St Lucia are today being sensitized on how to identify victims of child abuse. The initiative forms part of a program organized by the Department of Gender relations that focuses on various target groups in an effort to address the pervasive problem.

Clinical psychologist Ginelle Nelson spoke to our news desk on the significance of the program. She says the participants can expect to increase their knowledge base on child abuse as a first step to assisting the young victims.
