Decision made by St. Mary's College Principal has Mother outraged

The mother of a form one student of the St Mary’s College is outraged over a decision taken by the school which she says has breached her son’s constitutional right to an education.

Ms Bibianna William says her son has been ejected from classes and has been asked to sit on a bench outside for two weeks now because she refuses to cut his hair. She believes that the decision being taken against her son is not only wrong but illegal.

Post Mortem Examination Results Released for 19 Yr Old Teen

The results of a post mortem examination which was conducted on the body of Chereece Benoit have been released. The autopsy  took place on Saturday, September 14, 2013 on the body of the 19 year teenager of La Feuille, Monchy.

The results indicate Asphyxia secondary to Ligature Strangulation. Benoit’s body was discovered at her residence on Thursday September 12, 2013 about 8:45 p.m.

NWU expresses concern on the island's lack of planning for Job Security

The National Workers Union is deeply concerned with what it calls the internal hemorrhaging of job losses which continue to occur without signs of abeyance.

In a statement issued by the Union, it expressed that it is extremely unfortunate that St. Lucia has failed to grasp timely opportunities to structure a plan aimed at job security and economic stabilization.

Lazarus Alfred recounts his ordeal while being lost at sea

A fisherman who had been lost at sea after his boat was found adrift by Panamanian authorities is grateful for the efforts of those who have assisted in his safe return home. Lazarus Alfred returned to St Lucia on Friday after a successful intervention by the local government with Panamanian officials. He met with members of the press and recounted a series of events which he believes, led to his ordeal.

Mr Alfred notes that one of the biggest challenges for him was communication with Panamanian authorities after he was rescued.

CARICOM Leaders to Discuss Medicinal Usage of Marijuana at next Meeting

There has been reaction to moves by a regional Prime Minister who has taken the lead in calling on the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping for a discussion on the medicinal and other uses of marijuana.

In his letter to Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, who is also the Trinidad and Tobago head of government, Vincentian prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said it is high time that CARICOM addresses regionally “this matter in sensible focus not a hysterical manner”.

Fisherman lost at Sea to return home after being rescued by Panamian authorities

The government of St Lucia has announced that a local fisherman, who had been rescued by Panamanian authorities after his boat was found adrift a few weeks ago, is expected to return home some time this week. This comes following pleas for help from the government by his family.

According to a statement from Government’s Press Secretary Jadia Jn Pierre Emmanuel, the Government of Saint Lucia which has been working closely with Panamian authorities to ensure the safe return of Alfred Lazarus will be meeting the cost of his ticket from Panama to Saint Lucia.

LPM Responds on the Escalation of crime in Saint Lucia

The Lucian People's Movement (LPM) has signaled its unwillingness to rely on the government to take action to stem the escalation of crime in Saint Lucia.

This comes following claims by party leader Therold Prudent that the LPM has made several appeals to the United Workers Party when it was in power and to the current Labour administration of Dr Kenny Anthony, to convene a national consultation on crime that would involve all sectors of society.

Woman Arrested for Smuggling Cannabis into the Bordelais Correctional Facility

A 20 year old Bagatelle woman is currently in police custody after attempting to smuggle what appeared to be Cannabis to an inmate at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

The incident occurred about 10:12 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2013 when the suspect came to visit an inmate at the prison.

4 Year Anniversary of St. Jude Hospital Fire Commemorated

The Parliamentary representative for Vieux Fort North has called on St Lucians to remember the families of the victims who perished in the St Jude Hospital fire four years ago.

A statement released by Mr Moses Jn Baptiste notes that all three individuals who died in the fire were from the Vieux-Fort North constituency. He says the families are, to date, still trying to cope with their tragic loss.

ECCO to receive Royalty payouts this week

Members of the Eastern Caribbean Collective Organisation for Music Rights (ECCO) Inc., are expected to receive royalty payouts this week.

The announcement was made by the organization’s General manager Steve Etienne who notes that the payments totalling some $340,000 will include fees collected in the ECCO territories for the period 1st January – 31st December 2012 from Broadcasting & General Licensing; Previously unidentified performances rescued from pending sources and royalties received from overseas territories.

A Bois Patat woman is currently in police custody after attempting to ship a package out of Saint Lucia.

The incident occurred on Tuesday August 27, 2013 when she attempted to ship a package using a local shipping agency.  During an examination of the package by Customs personnel they discovered what is suspected to be Cocaine.
