Contraband Recovered at Bordelais Correctional Facility

A total of two hundred and fifty-six (256) pieces of contraband were recovered during A comprehensive search conducted at the Bordelais Correctional Facility for contraband and other illegal substances.

The discovery included blades, Cannabis, lighters, weapons, chargers, phones, batteries, sim cards, pocket books, screws, nails, staple gun, chisel, tobacco, silver, and a phone case.

Saint Lucia to Observe World Environment Day

Saint Lucia joins the rest of the world in recognizing World Environment Day on June 5th, with a message from the island’s Minister for Sustainable Development.

Focusing on the theme Connecting People to Nature, Dr Gale Rigobert called on the public to recognize the uniqueness and the value of the natural beauty of the island and its fragility. She added that giving due consideration to the pillars of sustainable development, becomes more challenging with the onslaught of climate change and the many environmental hazards that facing the island.

Sandals Acquire St. Lucia Golf Club

Sports Administrator Joseph Reds Pereira has welcomed the acquisition of the St Lucia Golf Club by Sandals Resorts International.

Pereira says for a long time the membership of the golf club had lost its vibrancy due to the exorbitant membership fees that made that facility exclusive.

He remarked that the stagnant environment has hurt the membership of the golf club and the golf association. Pereira believes that under new management the golf course can attract fresh markets and increased business.

Pass Road off the Castries - Gros Islet Highway to Re-Open

The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Energy has informed the motoring and general public that the By Pass Road located off the Castries – Gros Islet Highway near the Bois d Orange Bridge will be re-opened effective 12th June 2017.

The road will be opened for vehicles proceeding southbound from Gros Islet and there will be NO RIGHT TURN allowed for vehicles northbound unto the By Pass Road.

US President Trump Announces Exit of the Paris Climate Agreement

A former Minister for Sustainable Development in the St Lucia Labour Party administration says the decision by United States President Donald Trump to withdraw from the Climate Change Paris Agreement is not surprising, but disappointing.

President Trump announced Thursday that his administration will exit the Paris climate agreement fulfilling a campaign promise and satisfying strong Republican opposition to the global climate deal. The Paris Climate Agreement is a pact between nearly 200 nations to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to fight climate change.

Saint Lucia National Trust Announces Closure of Walcott House

The Saint Lucia National Trust has announced the closure of Walcott House as of, May 31st and until such further notice. This decision has regrettably been taken due to a number of funding cuts resulting in the Trust no longer being able to fund the operations of this memorial space in honour of artistic icons, the late Derek and Roderick Walcott, and their family.

The dream to realise the childhood home museum finally began to take form through the agreement of the Taiwanese Government to provide a grant of US$2.8 million or EC$7.53 million towards what was called the Walcott Place & Grass Street Urban Enhancement Project. This came after much effort, planning and manpower by the Trust and so many other partners.

Police say their hands are tied in the wake of a sex video which has gone viral on social media. Reports are that the video which has sparked growing public outrage has been has been shared multiple times on Facebook and particularly Whatsapp.

In the video, four or five young men and a woman can be seen engaging in sex with a woman. The woman’s hands and legs are bound and she is being subdued by those surrounding the bed.
