Herb Black to Receive Prestigious Award
As part of the celebrations recognizing Saint Lucia’s 35th Independence anniversary, the Saint Lucia House Foundation (SLHF) is proud to announce Saint Lucian Veteran Calypsonian Herb Black, (Anthony Sylvester Lewis) will be the recipient of the prestigious award for contribution to the cultural art form of Saint Lucia.

The annual Gala is the culminating activity in commemoration of Saint Lucia’s Independence anniversary. The event is scheduled for March 2, 2014, from 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm at the elegant El Caribe Country Club located at 5945 Strickland Ave Brooklyn, NY.

Police Force to Receive In House and Overseas Training
The Royal St. Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is gearing for an intensified period of both in-house and overseas training and development programmes for police officers. Police Commissioner Mr. Vernon Francois says the training opportunities will deal with various dimensions of policing. However, they are all aimed at helping to further equip the police in the professional and efficient discharge of their duties.

Superintendant of Police responsible for Corporate Services and Community Policing Mr. Severin Moncherry says.  “Community policing is one of the focus areas where training will be provided. Over the past years as part of its policing plans the Royal St. Lucia Police Force has focused its attention on community policing. One would appreciate that community policing involves partnering with relevant stakeholders to fight crime and social disorder.  He says police officers will also receive Human rights training.

WRMA Raises Alarm for Latest Theft
The Water Resource Management Agency (WRMA) is again raising public alarm and seeking assistance following the latest theft of critical state owned data collection equipment . The rainfall logger which is valued at 6000 pounds was stolen from the Bexon Primary School on Monday February 3, 2014.

This jeopardizes the lives of hundreds of citizens and visitors as the data collected from the equipment is used to support national disaster mitigation and adaptation efforts.

25 Yr Old Male Injured During Police Operation
One man remains hospitalized after he was shot by police on Wednesday during an operation in New Village.

During the operation, 25 year old Lawrence Jermaine Joseph of Bois Patat, Castries sustained a gunshot wound to the leg area. The incident occurred about 12:00 noon.

Police Investigate Homicide in Bois D'Orange
Officers attached to the Gros Islet Police Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 37 year old Malcolm Hippolyte of Bois D’ Orange, Gros Islet.

A communiqué from the Press Relations Department of the Royal St Lucia Police Force notes that about 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014, officers were summoned to Hippolyte’s residence, where they found suspended from a ceiling by a sheet. He was pronounced dead on the scene by a medical practitioner.

Reggae Artists Mourn Passing of William ‘Bunny Rugs’ Clarke
A St. Lucian Reggae enthusiast has reacted to the death of a legendary artist whose passing has taken some by surprise.

Tributes to the late William ‘Bunny Rugs’ Clarke former lead singer of the popular band Third World continue to pour in since news of his death at a Miami hospital. Clarke who would have turned 66 on Thursday, February 6, had been in intensive care for some time.

SLTB Organizes Training Conference to Target the British Market
Tourism partners across a wide spectrum of the industry are in line to benefit from training in key frontline areas designed to better target the British market.
The training, taking the form of a series of workshop seminars, comes as a direct result of a partnership involving the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and UK charity Travel Foundation.

Taking place From February 3rd -4th in the north and then again from February 6th -7th in the south, the training will include hoteliers, excursion providers, destination management companies and taxi drivers. Both entities will be presenting on ideas, trends and opportunities to improve and thereby increase visitor expenditure and passenger traffic to the island particularly from the United Kingdom market.

Government Receives Kudos for WASCO Tariff Increase
The Government of Saint Lucia is receiving kudos for its recent decision to grant a tariff increase to the Water and Sewage Company (WASCO).

The tariff increase positions the utility company to become economic viable and importantly to improve service delivery.

Jamaican born Miss Denise Forrest  who has over 12 years experience in waste management, environmental management, environmental auditing and assessments and project management says the decision by the Government of Saint Lucia is a move in the right direction. Miss Forrest who is currently the Project Coordinator for the Global Environmental Facility, Caribbean Region Fund for Wastewater Management Project says the tariff increase in Saint Lucia will go a long way to improve wastewater management. Approval of tariff increases must be complemented by steps to improve management of the utility.This has been done by government with the appointment of Mr Vincent Hippolyte as the new WASCO General Manager.
