2015 National Basketball League Results
Games continued last evening in the KFC National Basketball League in Micoud and Gros Islet.  Courts Jets defeated Micoud Hustlerz 70 – 55 to improve to a 3-0 perfect start to this year’s Premier League tournament.  Micoud seemed up for the challenge in the first half with the game in the balance at the half time interval 32 – 31, Courts Jets with a slim one point lead.  Jets limited the Hustlerz to 24 points with their familiar defensive trap in the 2nd half scoring 38 themselves to win comfortably in the end.

Soufriere and Canaries through to the Second Round of Super League Football

Soufriere and Canaries both book their places into the second round of the Michel’s Electrical Super League competition last night with victories over Babonneau and South Castries.

Troy Simon and Nixon David scored in the 27th and 58th minute respectively to send Babonneau out of the competition and Soufriere through to the second round.

The West Indies Cricket Board and Caribbean Community reach an Undisclosed Agreement on "The Way Forward" for Cricket
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the CARICOM committee on cricket governance say they have ended a “productive” meeting where an agreement has been reached on “the way forward” for West Indies cricket.

However both parties have declined to comment on the specifics of the agreement following their meeting which ran for nearly five hours at the upscale Spice Island Beach resort in Grenada’s southern tourist belt late Monday.

KFC National Men’s Basketball League Games Continue
A total of six games were played this past weekend at two different venues in the KFC National Basketball League.  On Saturday, two double-headers were played in Micoud and at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.   

In Division 1 action in Micoud, BBC defeated newcomers St. Lucia Fire Service 58 - 50 claiming their 2nd successive win.  Game two in Micoud featured the home team Micoud Hustlerz vs. Canaries Moon River.  Micoud won that game to square their season record at 1-1, Canaries with their 2nd defeat.

Super League Gets Underway at Beausejour with 5 Exciting Games
The SLFA and Vizions have come in for high praises over the weekend for their performance during the Launch of the SLFA Vizions Michels Electrical Super League Knockout Football Tournament.

Many patrons are still surprised by the on-time record over the weekend which saw 5 games played over a period of two days.  Two matches were played and Saturday and 3 matches on Sunday, with the 3 Sunday games completed by 10:15 pm The opening match on Saturday saw Roseau Valley coming up against Dennery.  By the end of the regulation 90 minutes, both teams were scoreless with Dennery seeing their chance of victory squandered by a misstep right in front of goal in the 85th Minute.  Dennery would regret their mischances as Roseau would score 4 times in the penalty shoot out to secure their place in the second round defeating Dennery 4 goals to 3 on penalties.

West Indies Make a Change for the Second Test Against England with the Series still in the Balance
West Indies Opener Devon Smith is excited and focused as he prepares for the second Test match against England at the Grenada National Stadium. The 33-year-old left-hander is set to become the first Grenadian to play a Test match on home soil when the game bowls off on Tuesday.
 
Smith played well in the first Test – with a defiant 65 off 175 balls in over three hours — in the second innings as West Indies showed resilience to earn a draw at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

Two National Track and Field Records Set over the Weekend, and Two More Qualifiers for the Pan Am Games
Jessie Corneil Corneil Lionel broke Ronald Promese's 16-year-old national record in the men's 200mn dash over the weekend, competing Sa @ at the John Jacobs Invitational  

Lionel, who is a student at Abilene Christian University, ran 20.63sec with a Wind Reading of  +1.6m/s.

KFC National Men’s Basketball League Games Continue

The games continued in the KFC National Men’s Basketball League last evening with games in both Micoud and Gros Islet.  

In Division 1 action on the Gros Islet Multipurpose Court, Lions defeated Maranatha Eagles 71 – 62 behind a career high performance of 24pts and 7rebs by KFC Player of the Game Fabian Florton to lead his team to victory.  Dudley Joseph registered a double-double of 10pts and 13rebs aiding Lions with the win.  Ryan Headley contributed 14pts and 5rebs for the losing Maranatha Eagles.

 SRDF T20 Cricket League 2015 Match Day 9
Market Road took on defending champions Challengers. Market Road won the toss and elected to bat first. Market Road once again struggled at the top of the order in their third consecutive match. Scoring only 23 runs in the opening 6 overs with the loss of 3 wickets. Wayne Prospere took 2 wickets back to back in the first over and at one point Market Road was at 12-3. A 58 runs partnership between Shervin George and Rajesh Frank brought some life into Market Roads innings with support from a 24 run partnership between Rajesh Frank and skipper Leroy Edward aided Market Road to a final to 94-5. Another 21 run partnership between Kermial Stanislaus and Marvern Alexander ensured that Market Road got to 124 before they were all out. Rajesh Frank and Shervin George were the top scorers for Market Road with 34 and 28 runs respectively. Wayne Prospere took 4-13.

 CFC SLFA Registration Tournament Continues
NYAH recorded a stunning come from behind victory over Police as action continued in the CFC SLFA Registration Tournament on Wednesday April 15th at the SAB. Police were coming off a victory in their previous game and looked on course to take maximum points when Myron Alfred scored a brace with goals in the 19th and 54th minutes. NYAH searched for an equalizer but were met with stubborn resistance from the law men.

Babonneau Youth Excel In Sports
The Babonneau Constituency Council in collaboration with the Babonneau Youth And Sports Council,  extends congratulations to the following young men from the Babonneau community, as we salute them on their recent sporting achievements:

1. Mr. Denzel St. Marthe, for winning a bronze medal, and setting a new personal best in the Javelin Event, with a  throw of 64.38m, at the recent Carifta Games held in St. Kitts, on the Easter Weekend.

Major Attention Coming for Sporting Infrastructure Islandwide

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has indicated its intention to refurbish the island’s multi-purpose courts—after having recently concluded the upgrading of community playing fields and general sporting infrastructure in targeted communities, island wide.

Just prior to the 2015 Jean Pierre Caribbean Netball Association’s under-16 Netball Tournament, the playing court at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Complex was resurfaced in time for the opening of the championships.

West Indies Fight Back, then Collapse, then Fight Back Again on Day 2 of the first Test Against England

West Indies fought back to limit England's advantage on the second day of the first Test in Antigua.

The tourists lost their last five wickets for 42 runs as they were bowled out for 399, with Ben Stokes falling for 79 and Kemar Roach taking 4-94. Although West Indies slipped to 99-4 in reply, they recovered to reach 155 without further loss by the close. Anderson claimed his 381st Test wicket to move to within two of Ian Botham's record for England.

Results in the Choiseul Credit Union 50 Overs Tournament Played Over the Weekend
On Saturday at Piaye Cafriere struggled to defeat Piaye in a low scoring encounter.  Winning the toss and inviting Piaye to take first knock, Piaye was bowled out for 115 off 25 Overs.  Nigel Fredrick 28 and Brad Louis 23 were the top scorers for Piaye.  Bowling for Cafriere, Lucas Mitchel took 4 for 42 off 7 overs and Jim Felix 2 for 14 off 5 Overs.  
 
In response the over confident Cafriere batting line-up panicked at 34 for 5 from some accurate Piaye bowling but a dogged innings by Kurstan Jules 54 not out; Vience Smith 20 and Jim Felix 14 rescued them and reached the target losing 7 wickets.  For Piaye, Brad Louis took 4 for 40 off 6 overs and Kapil Joseph 2 for 10 off 3 overs.  Cafriere won by 3 wickets.

Sharks eat up the competition at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre Invitational Swim Meet
The 16th annual Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre Invitational Swim Meet was concluded over the weekend.
Hundred of swimmers from Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados, Dominica and Antigua competed from Thursday to Sunday.

Saint Lucia Records First Loss in the Jean Pierre Youth Netball Tournament

Saint Lucia and SVG engaged in a titanic battle last evening as action continued in the Caribbean Netball Association's Jean Pierre Under-16 tournament.

Saint Lucia had won their first two games, but it was never going to be easy against their closest neighbours.

 Mon Repos Football Senior Club Football Competition Continues
The Mon Repos Football Senior Club Football competition continued on Saturday 11th April  with Grass Street Sports Club beating Lumbard Youth and Sports Club by 6-2. They were lead by a beaver trick from Cory Serieux(25th, 35th, 40th, 80th) and  goals from Gelan Raymond(37) and Slyvious Stephen(70th) . The consolation goals for Lumbard came from Yanniel Monrose (56th) and Jelani Ishmeal( 83rd).
The next game on Sunday the 12th April is Bordelias Correctional versus Challengers Sports Club.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Win the inaurgual Windward Islands Football Tournament as Saint Lucia Finishes Last
Home team St. Vincent and the Grenadines are the first ever Windward Islands Football Association women’s champions!

Playing at Victoria Park in Kingstown on Saturday night, the Vincentians got their second win of the tournament, beating Grenada 1-0. It was the same margin by which they had defeated Dominica on Tuesday night.

Saint Lucia Wins Two in a Row to Start the Jean Pierre Under 16 Netball Tournament on the Right Footing

Saint Lucia has opened the 2015 Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Under-16 Tournament a lot better than they did in 2014.

The 2011 champions, Saint Lucia were last in last year’s competition. This year, as hosts, they will have to hold off the challenge of 2014 runners-up Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica and Bermuda.

The Scene is Set for the First Test between West Indies and England today in Antigua
West Indies appear set to launch a passionate challenge against England when the two sides meet in the first of a three test series today in Antigua.

The West Indies have vowed to play “exciting and attacking cricket” in an all-important high stakes series which begins at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
