National Cricket Association secures Sponsors for T20 Competition

The Saint Lucia National Cricket Association has attracted more sponsors for its T20 competition scheduled to bowl off next month.

Having secured title sponsorship from the Bank of Saint Lucia, the SLNCA has added a locally based Furniture and appliance store, a locally based telecommunication company as well as two hotel entities, ahead of the start of the competition on October 5th

Youth/ Sports Organization Registration Programme to begin on Monday

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports in collaboration with the Saint Lucia National Youth Council will launch an island-wide Youth/ Sports Organization Registration Programme starting on Monday 30th September at 9:00 a.m. at the Ministry’s Conference Room on the third floor of the Blue Coral Mall on Bridge Street, Castries.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has found it necessary to examine the status of youth and sports organizations with a view to strengthening and enhancing the structure and administration of all such clubs and organizations.

Central Castries Wins the Royal Club U-20 Title

Central Castries added the Royal Club U-20 Title to its collection after defeating Dennery in a penalty shoot-out in Saturday’s final at the Mindoo Phillip Park.

The teams were deadlocked at nill all at the end of regulation time with the Castries lads prevailing 4-2 on penalties.

St Lucia National Cricket Association Premiere League Semi Finals This Weekend

Soufriere replied with 199 all out in 49.3 overs with Bradley Tisson leading the way with 74 not out, Kiether Prospare 45 and Denver Didier 36. Bowling for Gros Islet Dwight Thomas 3 for 51 and Selwin Boyce 2 for 37.

With a deficit of 83 Gros Islet batted aggressively to force a come from behind victory but lost wickets in the process and were dismissed for 166 in 32 overs setting Soufriere a victory target of 54.

Lancers FC wins their first title in recent years

Player-Coach Vibert Sonson sounded an early warning to affiliates of the Castries Football Council when he led Lancers FC to their first title in recent years.

On a day when 6 affiliates of the CFC gathered to usher in the second edition of the Castries Super League, the SLFA Premier League teams through VSADC, Lancers and FC Pioneers displayed their pedigree to join Valley Soccer in the semifinal round, after an extremely competitive first round of games in the 2013 Soccerama.

 ICC Test Table ranks the West Indies as fifth Test side in the World

West Indies Test captain Darren Sammy said he was extremely delighted with the steps his side has taken in achieving their goals in the longest version of the international game.

West Indies are now the fifth-ranked Test side in the World, following the latest update of the ICC Test Rankings table. It comes in the wake of an historic, 24-run victory for Zimbabwe in the second and final Test of their series against Pakistan on Saturday at the Harare Sports Club.

Individuals/Teams Awarded at the Blackheart Knock-out Football Tournament Prize Giving Ceremony

Participants of this year’s Blackheart Knock-out Football tournament were rewarded for their efforts. The prize giving and awards ceremony took place last evening at the Beausejour Cricket Grounds.

Gros-Islet collected the top prize of 16,500, Babonneau 9,250, third place Mabouya $5,500 dollars while fourth placed Roseau Valley collected $2,950.

St. Lucia's Tarrick Gabriel selected for West Indies U-19 squad

Saint Lucia and Windward Islands all rounder Tarrick Gabriel is named in a 17 member West Indies U-19 squad announced by the West Indies Cricket Board yesterday to face Bangladesh Under 19 in a seven match One Day Series to be played in Guyana in October.

Gabriel was the top all-rounder in the just concluded regional U-19 ODI tournament, scoring 232 runs (38.67 average) and taking 5 wickets are 15.4 runs per wicket.

Commissioner’s 20/20 Cup Begins

Police Headquarters and Operations recorded victories in the Commissioner’s 20/20 Cup on Tuesday at the Mindoo Phillip Park.

HQ defeated Northern division by 6 wickets in the opening match of the competition. Batting first Northern Division compiled 99-4 off 15 overs. Alvin Faucher led the way with a knock of 27 and Ked Cadasse made 23. M. Serieux took 2-20 with a wicket each to Sheldon Thorpe and Alleyne Prosper.

Blackheart Organisation Apologizes for Late Start of Finals

The Managing Director of the Blackheart Organisation has apologized to the Saint Lucian public for the late start of yet another Blackheart final.

David “Shakes” Christopher was a guest on RCI’s popular Morning Rumble programme on Tuesday morning, and came wearing protective head gear in anticipation of the blows he expected to receive from angry fans who attended Saturday’s game.

School Sports Calendar Finalized

The beginning of the 2013/2014 academic school year also marks the start of the School Sports Calendar.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour have finalised the sporting agenda for the year through a series of working group sessions which sought to design programmes to build and strengthen sports in the school system.
