The stage is set for the Grand Finals of the 2013 Veterans Football Tournament Sunday evening at the Beausejour Cricket Ground . Contesting the final will be two former champions the present defending champions Vieux Fort South and VSADC. The final is scheduled to kick off at 6.00 p.m.

Both teams have had interesting journeys to the final. The defending champions Vieux Fort South in their five matches getting to the finals won four and lost one. VSADC in their five matches getting to the finals played unbeaten with three wins and two draws.

In getting to the finals defending champions Vieux Fort South scored 10 goals      with only 4 goals being scored against them. VSADC on the other hand scored 9 goals with only 3 goals being scored against them.

The final to be played Sunday December 1st at the Beausejour Cricket Ground between VSADC and Vieux Fort South will be the second time that these two teams have met in a national veterans football final. A couple of years ago when the SLFA through Hudson B.Kelly and John Seco Jn Jacques organized a national veterans competition , Vieux Fort South won over VSADC one goal to nil at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in the final, the Vieux Fort South winner, a controversial strike by former national midfielder Nicholas “zico” Marcellin past former national goal keeper Austin Prospere. Marcellin is still in the present Vieux Fort South team for this years veterans final and there is still debate on today as to whether Marcellin’s strike had indeed crossed the line past the VSADC custodian Austin Prospere.

Among the players to watch in Sunday’s final for the defending champions are strikers Guy Jn Baptiste and Ernie Soudatt as well as midfielders former national players Douglas Ti Goat” Marcellin and Nicholas “zico” Marcellin and Jean “jim” Joseph, defender Tyrone “breaks” Clarke and goal keeper Calixtus Joseph.

For VSADC Gilroy Mitchell, Ullyses Mark and wily old veteran Trevor “flecky” Anderson in midfield, Davidson “weng weng” Belizaire and Owen “starry “ Alcindor in defence and up front Nicholas “blou” Lawrence and former  national striker Michael “bok” Jn Baptiste. VSADC has one major injury worry as key defender Martin “Ti Carmen” Alexander pulled up in the semi finals with a hamstring injury and is sweating to be fit ahead of Sunday’s final, if he is unable to play it will be a major loss for VSADC in the final.

Before Sunday’s final Laborie and Anse La Raye will meet in the third place play off kicking off from 4.00 p.m..

The winning team will receive $5000 dollars, Second place team $3000, third $2000 and Fourth place team $1500. In additional there will be several other prizes for outstanding teams and individuals.
