La Point Warriors Wins Choiseul Credit Union 50 Overs Tournament
In the Choiseul Credit Union 50 Overs Tournament last week-end, La Point Warriors had an easy victory over the luckless Drivers Cricket Team by 122 runs.  Winning the toss and bating La Point was bowled out for 250 off 44 Overs.  Hervey Philip got 49, Marcus St. Rose 28, Denver Philip 25.  For the Drivers Jose Thomas took 2 for 35 off 6 overs and John Mathurin 2 for 47 off his 10 Overs.

Good News and Bad News for West Indies Twenty 20 Captain Darren Sammy Yesterday
West Indies batsman Darren Sammy and Ireland bowler John Mooney have both been fined 30 per cent of their match fees for violating Level 1 Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International match” following Ireland’s four-wicket victory in Nelson on Monday.

Both offences happened in separate incidents in the first innings when Sammy was heard on television screens using inappropriate words after playing a shot in the 34th over, while in the second instance Mooney swore several times when a fielder dropped a catch in the 45th over.

Windward Islands Volcanoes to Play Against the Jamaica Franchise
In Kingstown, St. Vincent: Judging on recent results, the most competitive contest of the round could emerge, when the Windward Islands Volcanoes meet the Jamaica Franchise at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.

Volcanoes breathed life into their season with a resounding victory over the Red Force in the previous round, at the same time that the Franchisers stumbled when they were dominated by the Jaguars.

Woman Sues T&T Cricketer for Disseminating Private Photos

A Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies cricketer is being sued by a woman with whom he had a one-time love affair after he electronically disseminated intimate photographs of her to several of his colleagues.

The breach of confidence lawsuit, which was filed against Lendl Simmons by account executive Therese Ho, came up for hearing before High Court judge Justice Frank Seepersad at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain yesterday for a case management conference for the judge to decide how the case should proceed.

Philip Marcellin Ground to be ReCommissioned
One of the major sporting facilities in the south of the island will again be accessible to members of surrounding communities with the re-commissioning of the Philip Marcellin Ground situated in southern town of Vieux Fort

Closed for rehabilitation work since October 2012, the improved facility features upgrades to its drainage, stands, playing surface and retaining walls among other infrastructural improvements.

Laborie and Micoud to Play in Southern Independence Football Fiesta Semi-Finals

Laborie and Micoud have secured semi-final spots in the Southern Independence Football Fiesta when the second round of matches were completed on Wednesday.

At the Dames Playing Field in Vieux-Fort, Laborie defeated Vieux-Fort South by 2 goals to one and so amassing a total of four points, while at the Micoud Playing Field, home team Micoud topped their group with two wins and a total of six points when they defeated Vieux-Fort NORTH 3 .

Premier League TV Rights: Sky and BT pay £5.1bn for Live Games
Sky and BT Sport have paid a record £5.136bn for live Premier League TV rights for three seasons from 2016-17.

The figure represents a 70% increase on Sky and BT's current £3bn deal.

Massy United Insurance under 19 School Cricket Tournament Begins!
The 29th edition of the Massy United Insurance under 19 School Cricket Tournament  kicks off here in grand style on Wednesday February 11, 2015 from 9:00 am at the Beausejour Cricket Ground in the form of a cricket-rama.  

Throughout  its 29 year history the tournament has honed and showcased talents from all corners of the island, some of whom have  gone on to play at the highest level. They include the likes of Darren Sammy, Johnson Charles, Keddy Lesporis, Sergio Fedee, Garey Mathurin, Dalton Polius and more recently Larry Edward, Tarryck Gabriel who have all featured prominently in this tournament.

WICB Announces its Nominees at Upcoming AGM
The West Indies Cricket Board will hold its Annual General Meeting on March 7, 2015 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston Jamaica.

As part of the AGM, elections will be held for the positions of President and Vice President of the WICB.

The deadline for nominations to be received for the respective posts was Saturday February 7 last.

SFA Inter-Districts Under 15 and Royal Club Under 23 Competitions Continues
The St. Lucia Football Association Inter-Districts Under 15 and Royal Club Under 23 Competitions continued on the weekend with games playing in the different Districts.

On Saturday 7th February 2 games in the Under 15 Competition were played in the Northern Zone at the Corinth Field with the 1st game featuring Gros Islet vs Babonneau.  At the end of the game Gros Isletwon over Babonneau 10 goals to 0.  The goals from Gros Islet were scored by Samuel Lawrence with 5 goals in the 29th , 36th ,54th ,70th and 93rd, minutes, Gabriel Biscette with 2 goals in the 6th and 63rd minutes, Daniel Biscette with 2 goals in the 51th and 65th minutes and Ziadane Danzie  1 goal in the 90th minutes.

Ivory Coast Wins Africa Cup of Nations Final
Goalkeeper Boubacar Barry saved and scored the crucial spot-kicks that handed Ivory Coast a dramatic 9-8 penalty shootout win over Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Barry, who appeared to cramp up during the shootout, denied fellow keeper Brimah Razak - one of five efforts missed - before slotting in the winner.

LUCELEC Inter Primary School Table Tennis Competition Results
The competition took the format of boys and girls open singles with round robin matches being played in the group stage followed by single elimination matches.  All competitors represented the schools to the best of their ability at the Bonsejour Indoor Facility to earn the right to qualify to the quarter finals which was scheduled for the Castries City Hall on Friday 30th January at 9:30am.

The preliminary rounds saw 28 groups of boys and 14 groups of girls doing battle with only the group winners  advancing to the second round for the boys and the top 2 finishers advanced for the girls.

The following numbers qualified from the various schools to the second round.

Professional Cricket League to Resume in Saint Lucia Today
The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force will have a tough battle on their hands over the next four days when they face the Windward Islands Volcanoes at the Beausejour Cricket Ground in St Lucia in the fifth round of the West Indies Cricket Board Professional Cricket League Four-Day competition which bowls off today.

In the other matches starting today, defending champions Barbados Pride will host Leewards Hurricanes at Kensington Oval while leaders Guyana Jaguars face second place Jamaica at Sabina Park.

Trinidad and Tobago's Baldath Mahabir Confirmed as a WICB Vice Presidential Candidate

Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) representative Baldath Mahabir confirmed yesterday he will be contesting the post of vice-president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) when the organisation holds its AGM in Kingston, Jamaica on March 7.

On Tuesday , reports coming out of Jamaica stated that former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner received the backing of the William ‘Billy’ Heaven-led  Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) to try and oust incumbent Jamaican president of the West Indies Cricket Board(WICB) Dave Cameron at next month’s election of officers, with Mahabir expected to run as his vice president.

West Indies Team Welcomes Kemar Roach and Darren Bravo for 2015 World Cup
West Indies coach Stuart Williams has welcomed the return of pacer Kemar Roach and middle order batsman Darren Bravo to the regional side preparing for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand starting later this month.

Roach was forced to withdraw from the West Indies side during the series in South Africa due to an ankle injury while Bravo opted out of the tour for personal reasons.
