Saint Lucian High Jumper Levern Spencer Finishes Third in the IAAF World Challenge Beijing

It's becoming a bit of a recurring decimal for Levern Spencer.

Saint Lucia and the Caribbean's leading female high jumper cleared 1.91 m this week at the IAAF world challenge in Xinhua, Beijing, china
That's the same height she hit last week at the diamond league meeting in Doha, Qatar, and a centimetre below her season's best
Spencer was third in the women's high jump competition in china, the same height as second placed Croatian, Ana Simic
Russia's Anna Chicherova, the 2012 Olympic champion, won the IAAF world challenge with a clearance of 1.94 m.

The FIFA Presidential Race is Down to 2 Men Due to the Withdrawal of Luis Figo
Luis Figo has pulled out of the Fifa presidential race with a stinging broadside against Sepp Blatter and the electoral process.

After the Dutch FA president, Michael van Praag, also withdrew, as expected, Blatter is left with the Jordanian former Fifa executive committee member Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein as his only challenger.

Wins for Meggan William and Netanya Faisal in Renwick Open Tennis

In the girls 12 & under Navit Lafeuille defeated Nadgema Morille 9-4 and Jae Clery defeated Chloe Walcott 9-0.

The women were in out in full force yesterday afternoon with Meggan William stomping her authority on the no. 1 seed of the ladies draw Iesha Emile 6-0 6-0. Diana Stanislaus made quick work of Kimberly Ashley in straight sets defeating her 6-2 6-0. A thrilling three setter showcasing Georgeen Belrose and Medhini Urs treated the spectators to some spectacular shot making from both ladies. When the final ball was hit Georgeen Belrose came out on top coming from behind to win the match 4-6 7-6 6-0.

Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association to Host 'Go Swim' Developmental Meet this Weekend
With a new executive having been put in place recently, and confirmation that funding for the National Aquatic Centre has been promised by the Taiwanese government, the sport of swimming is riding the crest of a wave.

Now, with the Minister of Youth Development and Sports having lauded their accomplishments last week in the House of Assembly, local swimming fans have the opportunity to see the island's best in action.

The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Presents over $60 Thousand to 5 National Federations
The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee committed over $60 thousand to five national federations on Tuesday. In a meeting chaired by SLOC president Fortuna Belrose at Olympic House in Barnard Hill, the SLOC's General Secretary, Alfred Emmanuel, gave details of the expenditure.
 
Three federations are getting support for their Pan Am Games preparations. Saint Lucia has 11 individual athletes and one team qualified in four sports. The hemispheric multi-sport meet is scheduled to be hosted in Toronto, Canada, come July.

KFC National Men’s Basketball League Games Continue

Round 2 of the bout between heavyweights Courts Jets and the VBCC Warlords were one of seven games played in the KFC National Basketball League this past weekend.  

First on Saturday in Soufriere, home team Soufriere Sulphur Stars continued to show their dominance at home with a rout of the Morne Gladiators 81 – 44 handing them their worst defeat in the KFC NBL 2015. Delirius Restaurant and Bar player of the game Tevin St. Jean had a game high 26pts and 6rebs.  Linzel Alcee added a near triple double with 14pts, 9rebs and 8 steals.  For Morne Gladiators, Mervin Augustin had a team high 11pts and 8rebs.

Australia Remains Cautious as they Prepare for their Caribbean Tour

Australia Captain Michael Clarke urged his side to be cautious against a revitalised West Indies in the two-Test next month.

Clarke said he was wary of the Windies seamers and with the Caribbean side at home in their conditions, he expected them to prove a handful, reports CMC.

West Indies Cricket Board to Host a Series of Town Hall Meetings
President of the West Indies Cricket Board Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron will host a series of public town-hall meetings around the Caribbean over a period of three months, starting this Friday in Barbados.

Cameron said it was part of the WICB’s plan to engage directly with the regional public on the issues facing the game in the region.

Another New Saint Lucia National Track and Field Record Set over the Weekend

Kassandra Pierre and the University of North Carolina Asheville Bulldogs track and field team wrapped up the 2015 season at the Big South Championships in High Point, North Carolina, over the weekend.

The senior from Saint Lucia advanced to the women’s 400m hurdles final with a run of 1:00.62, fourth in the preliminaries.

St Vincent and the Grenadines Capture WIFA Men's Championship
St Vincent and the Grenadines came into Saturday evening, the third day of the Windward Islands Football Association 2015 Men's Championship, in pole position. Having taken a maximum six points from their two previous wins, over Grenada and hosts Saint Lucia, the Vincy Heat needed just a draw against Dominica (on four points) to secure the title.

Instead, the Vincentians got their third win in three, beating Dominica 1-0 through a Myron Samuel strike in the 22nd minute. His fourth goal of the tournament came courtesy of a left-sided run from the competition's Most Valuable Player, Emerald 'Monkey' George, and it was enough to lift the Heat to their first sub-regional title since 1973.

West Indies Women Lose To Sri Lanka Amidst Further Emergring Controversy

West Indies women’s cricket captain Merissa Aguilleira was sacked by the selectors on the eve of the team’s departure for its current four-match series against Sri Lanka.

The selection panel of Clive Lloyd, Courtney Walsh, Eldine Baptiste and Courtney Browne replaced the T&T wicket-keeper with Jamaican Stafanie Taylor, and although the news was relayed to Aguilleira by president of the WICB, Dave Cameron, the decision was not ratified by the WICB after objections were raised by the T&T Cricket Board, led by its president Azim Bassarath.

Netball Saint Lucia Names a 17-member Suqad To Continue Preparing For Its OECS Title Defense

The Technical Staff and National Under 23 Coaches of Netball St Lucia have formally named seventeen (17) players, seven of whom were on the victorious last year’s team, to camp this weekend from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th May 2015.

KFC National Basketball League Continues in Gros Islet and the Morne
Two games were played last night in the KFC National Basketball League in both Gros Islet and the Morne.  First at Gros Islet, a closely fought battle in Division 1 action between Maranatha Eagles and Police was decided in the end by free throws when Dave Headley scored the last 5 points for his team including two clutch free throws late to help the Eagles defeat Police by a single point 55 – 54.  Delirius Restaurant and Bar player of that game went to Arthur Lisson with a double-double of 10pts, 17rebs and 3 assists.  Dave Headley added 12pts and Femi Rene finished with 11pts and 10rebs for the Eagles.  For Police, Calious Dantes finished with 12pts and 4rebs and Kerlinus Augustin added 11pts and 7rebs in a losing effort.

New Champions For Windward Islands Men

The Windward Islands Football Association's 2015 Men's Championship will see a new champion crowned on Saturday night. Hosts and defending champions Saint Lucia were knocked out of contention on the second of three match days on Thursday evening.

Playing St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Philip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, the home team went ahead through Romiel Felix in the 38th minute. Retaining much of the possession, they appeared to be comfortably in charge.

SRDF T20 Cricket League News

The Steel took on Barons Drive after a long break in the SRDF T20 Cricket League.

The match was reduced to 15 overs due to the late start. Barons Drive won the toss and decided to field first. The Steel took full advantage of that decision by capitalizing on the many errors committed by Barons Drive during the game. A total of 6 catches were dropped and a large number of runs were given up in over throws.

Tennis Action Set for Central Castries this Week

For the second consecutive year Renwick & Company and Tiger Tennis have teamed up to host the Renwick Championships at the Kenneth “Wriggler” King Court more commonly known as The Gardens. This year’s tournament which is presented by Mc. Vities, Oasis Water and Supreme Bleach, will be hosted from the 15th May, 2015 to 23rd May, 2015.

Through a diligent partnership between Tiger Tennis and Renwick company this year’s tournament will showcase improved standards which the organizers hope will encourage the continued development of local tennis players. Two categories that have been added to the tournament to facilitate greater participation; Veterans 35 + and a Junior favorite boys and girls sixteen (16) and under category.

Four Saint Lucians Selected for Windward Islands Under-17 Cricket Team
Four Saint Lucians have been selected to represent the Windward Islands Cricket team for the 2014 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Under-17 tournament scheduled for early July in Tobago.

The Grenada Cricket Association (GCA) said that leg-spinning all-rounder Darel Cyrus, who was named Vice-Captain last year, has been elevated to the position of Captain while opening batsman Anil Matthew and fast bowling all-rounder Ryan John have regained their places from the 2013 team.

FIFA Releases International Rankings

Suriname and Dominica were the biggest movers in the Caribbean Football Union, in the latest international rankings released on Thursday by Football’s world governing body, FIFA.

The Dutch-speaking Caribbean country leapt 14 places to move to 13th in the CFU region and to 155th in the overall FIFA rankings.

Dominica, meanwhile, jumped 12 spots to be 16th in CFU, while rising to 165th in FIFA.

 Despite first ever Triple Century, Kevin Pietersen will not be picked for England

Reports in sections of the British media said that just hours after he scored a first-class best 326 not out on Monday (May 11), Kevin Pietersen had been told by Andrew Strauss, the new England director of cricket, that the England team still had no place for him.

Pietersen surpassed his previous first-class best of 254 in a mammoth innings for Surrey in their County Championship Division Two match against Leicestershire at The Oval. His runs came in just 373 balls as he hit 34 fours and 14 sixes to all corners of the south London venue in Surrey's first-innings total of 528 for 9.
