Saint Lucia Beat Antigua Barbuda in their FIFA World Cup Opener
Antigua and Barbuda were stunned by St Lucia in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.

The third-highest ranked country involved in the second round of qualifying for Russia 2018, Antigua and Barbuda suffered a setback as they lost the first leg of their tie 3-1 to St Lucia in North Sound.

Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Secondary Schools Under-15 Cricket Tournament Group Preliminary Continues

The group preliminary matches in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Secondary Schools Under-15 Cricket Tournament continued on Tuesday with victories for Sir Ira Simmons over Gros Islet Secondary, Entrepot Secondary over Castries Comprehensive, Piaye Secondary over Marigot Secondary, Beanfield Comprehensive over Choiseul Secondary and Micoud Secondary over George Charles Secondary.

At the Gros Islet Playing Field in game # 1, Sir Ira Simmons, led by a blistering half century from Gabriel Biscette completed a comfortable 7 wicket victory over Gros Islet Secondary. An opening stand of 150 between Jaquan Lucien 65 and skipper Qiana Joseph 60, allowed Gros Islet Secondary to amass 196 for 4 in their allotted 25 overs. Bowling for Sir Ira Simmons, Tyrel Lawrence 2 for 23 in 5 overs and Jerous Moise 2 for 26 in 5 overs.

Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Announces New Title Sponsor

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) today announced the appointment of Hero MotoCorp Ltd., the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, as the new Title Sponsor of the league for a period of one-year.

WICB Announces the West Indies Female and Male Players of the Year
Jamaican Stafanie Taylor and Barbadian Sulieman Benn were named West Indies Female and Male players of the year, respectively.

The announcement was made at the West Indies ‎Cricket Board (WICB)/West Indies Players Association (WIPA) third annual Players' Award ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston, a short while ago.

Mon Repos Football League Finale!
The much anticipated finals of the Mon Repos Football League between La Pointe 4H and Praslin Bay United was played on Sunday in front of a packed Wenn Playing Field. The game was a keenly contested affair, with Praslin scoring in the 32nd minute through Denver Charles.

Denver's marker would prove the eventual match winner, to the near euphoria of the drones of Praslin fans, who have seen their team play unbeaten throughout this tournament. Individual prizes for the tournament were awarded to a number of players, mainly from the two finalists.

Soufriere Regional Development Foundation’s Twenty20 Cricket Competition Picking Up Steam

The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation’s Twenty20 Cricket Competition is picking up steam, with several games played in the past week. Defending champions Challengers took on Belfond, the team they defeated in the finals last year. Challengers were 52/2 in the first six overs, but after a 30-run partnership between Keither Prospere and Alex Antoine, the challenge tailed off.

The Champions lost their last five wickets for only 38 runs, restricting them to just 125. Prospere made 25 and Antoine 24. Jervan Charles and Sylvanus Augustin took three wickets each. Belfond wasted no time chasing down the runs. They broke the tournament record by scoring 84 runs in the powerplay.

Outstanding Performances from Two of Saint Lucia's Top Female Cricketers
Yasmine St Ange, the captain of the national women’s team, is currently studying at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill. There, she is a member of the UWI Cave Hill Blackbirds, a team initiated by Saint Lucia’s Eugena Gregg, a former West Indies player. This season, the Blackbirds played the Barbados Cricket Association Domestic League undefeated.

But in the opening match of the triangular Goodwill Women’s Twenty20 Tournament, Blackbirds went down to the BCA Women’s XI. Playing at the 3W’s Ovals, the BCA X1 scored 130/5 off 20 overs. Saint Lucia’s St Ange was luckless, bowling four overs and conceding 23 runs. She made nine not out as Blackbirds were held to 92/8.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul gets Among the Runs in the United States
Discarded West Indies batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has found himself among the runs again when he scored 146 not out and 77 over the past weekend. Chanderpaul put up the scores playing for Sarasota International Cricket Club, in Florida USA, according to Largo Cricket Club’s Facebook page.

Seventh Place for Levern Spencer at the Birmingham Grand Prix
Saint Lucia's Levern Spencer competed over the weekend at the Sainsbury's Birmingham Grand Prix, an IAAF Diamond League meeting in the United Kingdom. The 30-year-old from Babonneau was part of a strong field in women's high jump.

The Polish duo of Kamila Licwinko and Justyna Kasprzycka took first and second, respectively, clearing 1.97m and 1.94m, each setting her season's best. Spencer, meanwhile, continues to punch below her weight this season. Just over two weeks shy of her 31st birthday, she needed all three tries at 1.91, and missed at 1.94, which would ghave qualified her for the Olympics.

Wins for Babonneau, Gros Islet, the SDA Academy, Beanfield Comprehensive and Choiseul in Under15 Cricket

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports 2015 Secondary Schools Under-15 Cricket Tournament continued on Tuesday with victories for Babonneau Secondary over defending champions St. Mary's College, Gros Islet Secondary over Castries Comprehensive Secondary, SDA Academy over Sir Ira Simmons, Beanfield Comprehensive over Marigot Secondary and for Choiseul Secondary over Soufriere Comprehensive.      

At the Monchy Playing Field, Babonneau Secondary registered a comfortable 64 run victory over St. Mary's College. Babonneau Secondary batting first was dismissed for 163 in 22.3 overs, with skipper Kimani Melius top scoring with 51, Stavone Gabriel 35, Rene Montoute 20 and Jelani Cupid 15. For St Mary's College, left arm spinner Simeon Gerson picked up 5 for 19 in 5 overs, Rahym Joseph 2 for 16 in 5 overs and Stephen Mitchel 2 for 25 in 3.3 overs.

Dispute between West Indies and the India Cricket Board to be Resolved Soon
Discussions between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the BCCI’s US$42 million compensation claim for abandoning the Test and ODI series in India last year have been going well and both parties could arrive at a resolution by the end of the month.

So claims WICB CEO Michael Muirhead, who said the regional body is very hopeful of resuming bilateral relations with the BCCI.

Head of World Football Announces Resignation
Sepp Blatter, who proclaimed to the world that he was “president of everybody” after winning a fifth term as head of FIFA on Friday, will soon be nobody’s president.

In a stunning turn, Blatter, who seemed to hold so firm to the stance that he, and he alone, could clean up the corrupt organization that he presided over, announced on Tuesday that he would step down as FIFA’s leader, a position he has held since 1998. An extraordinary FIFA congress will meet to elect a new president: the head of FIFA’s audit committee said the timing of the election is “likely to be between December and March.

The defending  champions Genuine Parts World Tigers white washed the C.Enterprise Hawks 5 games to 0 to open their season with a big victory . Faith Stanislaus from the Genuine Parts World Tigers defeated Wayne Benn of C. Enterprises Hawks in straight sets 3-0.   C. Enterprise Hawks Clint Alcindor then succumbed to the hard hitting Franklin Noel of the Genuine Parts World Tigers 3 sets to 0. The doubles event was won 3 sets to 0 by the Genuine Parts World Tigers. Franklin then ran through Wayne to win 3 sets to 0. The last match saw Faith winning in similar fashion over Clint.

Saint Lucia are dethroned as OECS Boxing Champions Despite Topping the Medals Table
Host country Grenada emerged champions of the 2015 OECS Boxing Championships which was staged this past weekend . The Grenadians finished on 17pts to top the points tally after winning Three Gold and four Silver Medals.

Dethroned champions St. Lucia were Second winning Four Gold medals and One Silver Medal.

St Lucia Athletics Association to Host 2015 Club Relay Championship
The athletes, coaches, technical officials and well wishers of the St Lucia Athletics Association will on Saturday May 30, converge at the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux Fort for the hosting of the 2015 Club Relay Championship from 1:00 pm.

Come Saturday the following teams: Abilene, Blazers, Choiseul Athletics,  District 1,  Elite, Morne Stars,  Night Riders, Road Busters, Rockets and  Speed Printing Survivors  will all attempt  to dethrone the 2014 Champion Pace Setters to be crowned the 2015 SLAA Club Relay Champions.

FIFA President Addresses Delegates at Congress
World Soccer Boss Sepp Blatter was expected to be re-elected on Friday, defying growing calls for him to step down in the face of corruption scandals engulfing the sport's governing body.

Addressing FIFA delegates at the body's annual Congress in Switzerland, where members will later vote to decide the organisation's presidency, Blatter promised more transparency and urged members to remain unified.

West Indies Chief Selector Clive Lloyd Explains Shivnarine Chanderpaul's Omission from Squad

West Indies Chief Selector Clive Lloyd has told veteran batsman Shiv Chanderpaul that he was omitted from the Caribbean squad which will play against Australia because of declining form.

In a letter to Chanderpaul Lloyd said the decision was made after new head coach Phil Simmons and the selectors reviewed his statistics from the last six Test matches. Chanderpaul’s exclusion from the Windies squad has sparked a major debate with many criticising the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) selection panel, reports CMC.

Gros Islet are Super League Football Champions after Beating VF South
There were euphoric scenes of celebration at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort as a Troy Greenidge goal in the 74th minute saw Gros Islet crowned inaugural Super League Football Champions.  In excess of 1000 fans turned up at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds to witness the exciting football finals billed as the North-South Clash between Gros Islet and Vieux Fort South.
 
The game was relatively poised in the first half with fans at the edge of the seats speculating that any team could walk away with the title.  It was an error in judgement by the Vieux Fort South team that allowed Troy Greenidge collect a loose ball to give Gros Islet the advantage.   Gros Islet fans went wild chanting “Jean Gros Islet, Jean Gros Islet”.

Seven FIFA Officials Arrested and Seven Indicted in Wide-Ranging Corruption Probe
A 47-count indictment was unsealed early this morning in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, charging 14 defendants with racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies, among other offenses, in connection with the defendants’ participation in a 24-year scheme to enrich themselves through the corruption of international soccer.  The guilty pleas of four individual defendants and two corporate defendants were also unsealed today.

The defendants charged in the indictment include high-ranking officials of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the organization responsible for the regulation and promotion of soccer worldwide, as well as leading officials of other soccer governing bodies that operate under the FIFA umbrella.  Jeffrey Webb and Jack Warner – the current and former presidents of CONCACAF, the continental confederation under FIFA headquartered in the United States – are among the soccer officials charged with racketeering and bribery offenses.  The defendants also include U.S. and South American sports marketing executives who are alleged to have systematically paid and agreed to pay well over $150 million in bribes and kickbacks to obtain lucrative media and marketing rights to international soccer tournaments.
