Temporary Ban Imposed on Corned Beef from Brazil Now Lifted

A temporary ban on corned beef from Brazil imposed by the government of St Lucia has been lifted.

The move was taken following international concerns about the unwholesomeness of meat and meat products from Brazil. Officials there had confirmed that a criminal investigation named “Operation Weak Flesh” was initiated by the Brazilian Government. As a result, the Ministry of Health & Wellness, in Collaboration with the Veterinary and Livestock Division of the ministry of Agriculture and the Consumer Affairs Division of the Ministry of Commerce, instituted a temporary suspension on the importation of corned beef from Brazil. Since the introduction of this measure, local government agencies have continued to closely monitor the situation.

Officials at Victoria Hospital have declined to comment on the recent discharge of a patient who is believed to have been involved in a robbery attempt in Babonneau over the weekend.

Official reports suggest that the man was among three individuals involved in the heist that went awry. Police told the media on Tuesday that he was admitted to hospital following a severe beating, but was in stable condition.
