Activities for the 2017 National Arts Festival to Commence this Weekend

Activities for the 2017 National Arts Festival, coordinated by the CDF will commence this weekend with a Community Festival in Micoud from Friday April 21st – Sunday 23rd. The 3-day event will encourage participation from communities in Micoud to showcase their creativity in all areas of visual, fine, literary and performing arts.

On Friday, April 28th, Poetry Night Live features Saint Lucian poet Kendell Hippolyte and will take place on Cadet Street in Castries under the theme, “Sounds of the Castries Underground”.

Vendor Seeks Justice for the Castries Constituencies Council's Decision to Demolish Stall

A city vendor whose storage hut was destroyed last week on the orders of the Castries Constituencies Council is seeking justice for what she says is the deliberate and targeted attack on her.

Josephine Burke who operates from an area on Jeremie Street, opposite the hut, says the structure was destroyed without prior notification from the CCC. But according to Council Chairman Peterson Francis, due process was followed. He claims that the structure was an eye sore and presented a health hazard in the city and as such immediate action had to be taken.

President of St. Lucia Vendors Association Comments on the Castries Constituencies Council's Decision to Demolish Vendor Stall

A decision by the Castries Constituencies Council to demolish the stall of a City vendor has been described as a breech in the laws of St Lucia.

The assertion comes from the President of the St Lucia Vendors Association Peter Ras Ipa Isaac, after the CCC destroyed a storage hut belonging to Josephine Burke on Jeremy Street last week.

Police News

Police have confirmed the arrest of a robbery suspect who was wounded in a foiled attack on a shop in Babonneau.

Police Press Relations Officer Gregory Alexander says the man was visibly injured when police arrived on the scene. He adds that the suspect is in stable condition and remains under police guard at hospital.
