St Lucia receives over 2 Million Dollars in Financial Assistance from Taiwan

The government of St Lucia has today received over 2 million dollars in financial assistance from its Taiwanese Counterparts.

The cheque presentation was made earlier today to Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony. The monies are expected to be channeled through the consolidated fund before being allocated for various infrastructure projects through out the island.

A Review of International Creole Day in St. Lucia

The reviews on activities held on Sunday to mark the observance of International Creole Day are in. Representatives of the various committees say they are pleased with the level of support for the festival as well as the crowd turn out in the four host communities.

In Soufriere, Ms Lookie Albert notes that the quality of the various events held in that town met the expectation of the organizers. She adds that the response from patrons was a welcomed surprise.

Carnival Allocation to be Paid Upfront

The Ministry of Creative Industries is moving to adopt a position that will see the allocation for Carnival from the government paid upfront.

The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Donnovan Williams and is expected to take effect as early as next year. The festival which has been boasted as the island’s largest cultural showpiece has been plagued with financial troubles which have resulted in delays in disbursements to several players in Carnival.

Unknown Body Discovered in Marigot

A special appeal is being made to any individual, who in the recent has had a family member or friend missing, to contact the Major Crimes Unit. This comes following a gruesome discovery by police on Thursday, October 24, 2013 about 8:00 a.m..

Police say that officers attached to the Marigot Police Station received a report of a wooden structure which was destroyed by fire and as a result accompanied the virtual complainant to a banana plantation at Bel Aire, Marigot.While examining the scene, the discovery was made of a partially burnt body.

Foul Play Suspected in Death of Inmate

Foul play is suspected in the death of an inmate who reportedly died in police custody on Wednesday.

 

Police reports revealed that 22 year old Shakadan Daniel was found hanging in his cell at the Micoud Police Station by officers. The discovery was made just moments before Daniel was scheduled for a court appearance
