Legendary writer, poet and painter Sir Derek Walcott is dead.
The Nobel Prize winner for Literature died at his Cap Estate residence early this morning following what appears to have been multiple organ failure. Sir Derek was undergoing dialysis treatment.
Speaking on the death of the man who was revered in the literary world are some of his close friends, who believe that they are among the fortunate few who were privileged to spend time with Walcott.
Among them is newspaper writer and Publisher Rick Wayne, who had just last night, urged for prayers from the nation for Sir Derek who had been ailing for some time now.
Wayne has described Walcott as his greatest inspiration.
Wayne also spoke to Sir Derek passion for the environment noting that he was the heart and soul of St Lucia.
