Sports Administrator Joseph Reds Pereira has welcomed the acquisition of the St Lucia Golf Club by Sandals Resorts International.

Pereira says for a long time the membership of the golf club had lost its vibrancy due to the exorbitant membership fees that made that facility exclusive.

He remarked that the stagnant environment has hurt the membership of the golf club and the golf association. Pereira believes that under new management the golf course can attract fresh markets and increased business.

Pereira has revisited a recommendation made about a year ago, that proposed honorary membership for Daren Sammy and Johnson Charles as well as John Eugene. He is hopeful that Sandals would take the idea into consideration, because of its heavy involvement in Cricket development through its Cricket Academy.

Sandals made the announcement last week noting plans to upgrade the facility. It includes a family entertainment complex, swimming pool, tennis courts, new restaurants and improved meeting and conference amenities, making the facility will be accessible to guests from other resorts, cruise ship visitors and very importantly the people of St. Lucia.
